2. Finnish Spitz

The Finnish Spitz comes, quite logically, from Finland and is deeply rooted in the country’s history and culture. Locally known as Suomenpystykorva, this breed has held the status of Finland’s national dog since 1979 in the country often nicknamed the “Land of a Thousand Lakes.” As puppies, they strongly resemble young red foxes with their sharp features and fiery coats. These dogs are clever, self-reliant, and notably determined in character. Despite their modest size, Finnish Spitz dogs are bold hunters, originally developed to use their voice while working. As a result, frequent barking is part of their nature, which can test the patience of nearby neighbors, making early training for silence essential. They also excel as alert guardians, quickly signaling any unfamiliar sound or movement.
