Bon Iver developed a devoted following in the underground music scene before achieving mainstream success with songs like “Skinny Love.” Once the band became widely known, however, some early fans quickly lost interest.
For those listeners, much of Bon Iver’s appeal may have come from the exclusivity of discovering an obscure artist. Without that sense of uniqueness, Justin Vernon’s soft vocals and subdued style no longer seemed as compelling.
