Bon Jovi discovered its arena-rock formula early and rarely moved beyond it. The approach was undeniably successful, but Richie Sambora’s familiar guitar work behind Jon Bon Jovi’s soaring vocals on songs like “Livin’ on a Prayer” and “Runaway” was hardly groundbreaking.
